Scottish Woodlot Association

Welcome to the Scottish Woodlot Association

Overview

The Scottish Woodlot Association brought the Woodlot Licence concept to Scotland from its origins in British Columbia, Canada. We aim to support, facilitate and connect individuals and families who wish to manage small-scale woodlands and landowners who wish to get areas of woodland into active sustainable management.

Demonstrating that small-scale practical woodland management under a woodlot licence agreement can support local households and small businesses as well as benefitting landowners through active ongoing woodland management and silviculture.

Support For Woodlots

“We are very excited to be working with the woodlotters to bring these woodlands into better management. Borders Forest Trust is a community based native woodland conservation charity, and creating woodlots with local people has provided the ideal solution to the challenge of managing these conifer blocks and gradually converting them to native woodlands."
Nicola Hunt, Borders Forest Trust
“It's great to be able to work alongside the Trust, who are allowing us to achieve the objectives of our management plan, whilst we assist them achieve their vision for the site”
Ross Gemmell, Corehead
"This is great news and another positive step forward for the Scottish Woodlot Association. There is tremendous interest in the Scottish Parliament in how woodlots can help to increase opportunities to work in forestry. The Scottish Government is committed to encouraging initiatives like this that enable more people in Scotland to share the benefits that our trees, woods and forests can bring."
Paul Wheelhouse MSP, Minister for Environment and Climate Change (2014)
